The internationally acclaimed concert organist, Wolfgang Rübsam, along with his former student, recording artist Dr. Julia Brown, will be in residency at the UO School of Music for the 2021 John D. Hamilton Organ and Harpsichord Visiting Artist Series.

The University of Oregon School of Music and Dance (SOMD) is pleased to announce Dr.

Congratulations to three of the School of Music and Dance violinists who placed at The Music International Grand Prix Competition! The competition is a multi-round international competition for musicians of all ages. Performances were held in Canada, Asia, Europe, and the United States. Originally scheduled to be held in New York City with a winners' concert in Carnegie Hall, the finals were moved to Virginia due to COVID-19 with the winners' concert held at the Hylton Performing Arts Center.

Matthew L. Garrett (he/him) is Associate Professor of Music Education, Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies in Music Education, and Director of the University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education (UCITE) at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, coordinates the music education licensure program, and leads university faculty, staff, and students in educational development programming to improve student learning. 

Composer and arranger Nan Schwartz brings her acclaimed talent for creating lush harmonic landscapes and her experience as a pioneer on the Hollywood music scene to the University of Oregon for a virtual spring residency which will include a masterclass on the art of arranging, a composing workshop, a film scoring session, rehearsals of her work, and discussions on carving out a career in the music industry.

Pianist Lara Downes brings her "luscious, moody, and dreamy” (The New York Times) artistry to the University of Oregon for a virtual spring residency that includes a unique blend of performance, historical exploration, and pedagogy. All events are online and open to the public. Register Now!

The music building will open to students from 6:50 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day.
