On August 26, UO President Michael Schill sent a letter to the UO community about the current state of the university’s COVID-19 response, as well as overarching plans for resuming studies and activities in the fall term. While the letter touches on the topics of health and safety, adapting to create opportunities for first-year students, and tuition, its ultimate message is that remote and online learning is in the best interest of UO students, faculty, staff, and public health.

As we approach fall term, we know you have a lot of questions about campus life during this uncertain time. Foremost, we want you to know that we’re working hard to make your return safe and healthy. We’re here to support you and keep you informed.

With that in mind, we’ve created a list of FAQs to offer the most up-to-date information available. The FAQ list will be continually revised  as we learn more about the COVID-19 pandemic and the state and University's response. Please check back regularly for updates.

In May 2018, The Nellie Tholen Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation awarded Steinway Artist Claire Wachter a grant of $40,000 to complete the second phase of The Virtual Piano Master Course online video series.

'Tis the season. Get into the holiday spirit with this beautiful, a capella rendition of the classic Christmas carol “Deck the Halls,” performed for you by singers from the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance Chamber Choir.

Alexandre Dossin, professor of piano performance and literature, who has been added to the prestigious roster of Steinway Artists, will perform at the Steinway and Sons Gallery in Beverly Hills on November 2, 2016.

Critics have called Dossin a "wonderful pianist," "master of contrasts," "master of expressiveness," and “a stunning pianist with a symbiotic relationship with the instrument."

Associate Professor of Dance Brad Garner and his non-profit organization "Integrated Arts" has won a $75,000 Creative Heights Award from the Oregon Community Foundation to produce and tour a new work based on the life of legendary inventor and engineer Nikola Tesla. The work, which is entitled "Tesla: Light, Sound, Color," aims to creatively merge artistic disciplines with physics. The premiere performance is scheduled for Fall 2017 at the Soreng Theatre in the Hult Center.

When Eugene Opera couldn't find a male treble to sing the role of Miles in Britten’s "The Turn of the Screw," they asked SOMD senior Carolyn Quick, a soprano, to take the part. It turned out to be an inspired casting decision.

Former faculty member and Emeritus, Bassoonist Peter Bergquist, who taught Bassoon, Music History, Theory from 1964-1995, then for a year, 1998-1999 has passed away. According to his obituary, published in Eugene Register-Guard on July 3, 2016 he died quietly on Saturday morning, June 11.
