Nov. 19, 2013—When it comes to describing what moves her, UO junior Ferena Kagata is quite eloquent.

"Dancing is my passion; it gives me purpose," says Kagata. "When I am performing, there is an exchange of breath with the audience, this translation of energy that I have never experienced off the stage."

Nov. 14, 2013—The University of Oregon’s Department of Dance is pleased to present the 2013 Fall Feature Dance Concert. Entitled "Aspects of the Heart," the concert will feature the Ashland, Ore.-based Dancing People Company.

Nov. 13, 2013—Associate Professor of Music Education Timothy A. Paul has accepted the conductor position with the Eugene Symphonic Band. Paul joins ESB for their 57th concert season and states he is proud to be part of the legacy that was founded by the late Robert Vagner, former professor of clarinet and Director of Bands at the University of Oregon.

Nov. 7, 2013—Beall Concert Hall is undergoing a bit of auditory facelift at the moment. Last week, the first sound diffusion panels were added to the upper quarter of Beall’s stage. This is the first step in a four-part acoustic adjustment to the nearly 90-year old hall aimed at softening the harsher tones produced by larger ensembles.

Oct. 22, 2013—UO graduate student Jessika Leek has been named the winner of the Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra's First Annual Composition Contest for her original composition "Lights." The piece will be performed by Ingrid Jensen, renowned trumpet player, on Oct.

Oct. 16, 2013—Alexandre Dossin, associate professor of piano performance and piano literature, just returned from a trip to the southeastern United States. Dossin, a guest of the Louisiana Music Teachers Association State Convention, was awarded honorary citizenship by Mayor Randy Roach of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Oct. 3, 2013—A recent article on the Oregon ArtsWatch website lauds the SOMD for live-streaming numerous events from Beall Concert Hall.

The SOMD's live-stream project, which launched during the 2012-13 academic year, allows users to enjoy many Beall Concert Hall offerings from the their own computer or mobile device, free of charge. The live-stream is linked from the SOMD Concerts and Events calendar webpage.
