As of this posting (11:30 a.m. on 2/9/14), the UO Opera Ensemble's "A Tale of Two Women" is still scheduled for 2/9/14 at 3 p.m., though this may change.

Feb. 5, 2014—For many, winter may be a time for quiet reflection. But this winter will be anything but quiet on the University of Oregon campus, as the UO School of Music and Dance sponsors “Percussion Month” from late February through mid-March. The series of events will feature rare opportunities to see world-renowned percussion masters in concert, coupled with unique educational opportunities that are open to the public.

Jan. 22, 2014—The University of Oregon School of Music and Dance has announced the fourth round of performers in the prestigious Emerging Artist Series (EArS). The honorees will perform in a winter showcase concert at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2 in Beall Concert Hall on the UO campus. Admission is free.

Jan. 24, 2014—The University of Oregon’s Department of Dance will present Dance 2014, the annual faculty dance concert, at 8 p.m. on Feb. 13, 14, and 15 in the Dougherty Dance Theatre in Gerlinger Annex on the UO campus.

Tickets are $10 general, $5 for students and seniors, available at the door or in advance from the UO Ticket Office.

Jan. 20, 2014—Claire Wachter, International Steinway Artist and Associate Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy, has been awarded a $35,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation to create a series of online video lecture-performances in piano repertoire.

Jan. 11, 2014—Timothy A. Paul has begun a two-year elected appointment as President of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Northwestern Division. This position that will afford him the opportunity to provide leadership in the wind band field at the regional and national levels. Responsibilities include organizing the 2014 West/Northwest CBDNA conference in Reno, Nevada and leading a dynamic hub of college directors and the communities in which they serve.

Jan. 10, 2014—This morning, local painter, Helen Hui-ling Liu, was busy installing her original art piece/backdrop for tonight’s Laura Wayte concert, "American Luminosity: Our Poets, Our Composers, Our Art" at Beall Concert Hall. This will mark the second year that Wayte and Liu have collaborated on a project of this kind, where the two women interpret the same idea through the lenses of their vastly different art forms.

Dec. 5, 2013—Assistant Professor of Musicology Loren Kajikawa presented his talk "Before Rap: DJs, MCs, and Pre-1979 Hip Hop Performances" at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in September of 2013.

Nov. 21, 2013—The University of Oregon School of Music and Dance will present several concerts celebrating the holiday season, both on the UO campus and in the community. Nov. 19, 2013—When it comes to describing what moves her, UO junior Ferena Kagata is quite eloquent.

"Dancing is my passion; it gives me purpose," says Kagata. "When I am performing, there is an exchange of breath with the audience, this translation of energy that I have never experienced off the stage."
