Feb. 24, 2014—On February 15, students from the UO School of Music and Dance swept the awards at the Eugene Symphony's 2013-14 Young Artist Competition.

Feb. 19, 2014—On Friday, March 7, fans of the traditional folk music of Ireland can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a wee bit early on the University of Oregon campus. Folklorist and performer Mick Moloney will present a concert of Celtic tunes at 8 p.m. in historic Beall Concert Hall, the opening event of Eugene's annual Irish Cultural Festival.

Feb. 14, 2014—Starting Tuesday, Feb. 18, the University of Oregon is honored to welcome the celebrated cellist Jeffrey Zeigler for a special weeklong residency at the School of Music and Dance.

The UO School of Music and Dance has named Zeigler a 2014 Robert M. Trotter Visiting Professor, a mark of distinction reserved for honored guest artists and scholars. Zeigler’s time on campus will include two public performances in historic Beall Concert Hall, as well as a more informal master class that will be free and open to the public.

Feb. 11, 2014—On Tuesday, March 11, the acclaimed Oregon Wind Quintet, fresh from a well-received tour of the San Francisco Bay Area in January 2014, will present a concert entitled "Retro-Moderne," at 7:30 p.m. at The Old Church, 1422 SW 11th Ave, Portland. Admission is free.

  • 2/9/14 Eugene Symphony Chorus rehearsal

As of this posting (11:30 a.m. on 2/9/14), the UO Opera Ensemble's "A Tale of Two Women" is still scheduled for 2/9/14 at 3 p.m., though this may change.

Feb. 5, 2014—For many, winter may be a time for quiet reflection. But this winter will be anything but quiet on the University of Oregon campus, as the UO School of Music and Dance sponsors “Percussion Month” from late February through mid-March. The series of events will feature rare opportunities to see world-renowned percussion masters in concert, coupled with unique educational opportunities that are open to the public.

Jan. 22, 2014—The University of Oregon School of Music and Dance has announced the fourth round of performers in the prestigious Emerging Artist Series (EArS). The honorees will perform in a winter showcase concert at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2 in Beall Concert Hall on the UO campus. Admission is free.

Jan. 24, 2014—The University of Oregon’s Department of Dance will present Dance 2014, the annual faculty dance concert, at 8 p.m. on Feb. 13, 14, and 15 in the Dougherty Dance Theatre in Gerlinger Annex on the UO campus.

Tickets are $10 general, $5 for students and seniors, available at the door or in advance from the UO Ticket Office.

Jan. 20, 2014—Claire Wachter, International Steinway Artist and Associate Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy, has been awarded a $35,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation to create a series of online video lecture-performances in piano repertoire.

Jan. 11, 2014—Timothy A. Paul has begun a two-year elected appointment as President of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Northwestern Division. This position that will afford him the opportunity to provide leadership in the wind band field at the regional and national levels. Responsibilities include organizing the 2014 West/Northwest CBDNA conference in Reno, Nevada and leading a dynamic hub of college directors and the communities in which they serve.
