Named in honor of former SOMD Dean Robert M. Trotter, the Distinguished Professorship supports annual residencies that connect students with world-class artists through lectures, masterclasses, performances, and more.
In 2024-25, six artists and ensembles participated in residencies that enriched student learning.
Grant Zubritsky
Grant Zubritsky, nominated by Assistant Professor of Music Technology Dr. Jon Bellona, is a sought-after musician, music director, and producer who has performed or recorded with Grammy Award-winning and nominated artists such as Mitski, Dua Lipa, Lorde, Bebe Rexha, and Maggie Rogers, among others. Zubritsky’s January visit offered students a behind-the-scenes look at life as a professional musician, music director, and producer.


Tony Arnold
Internationally acclaimed soprano, Tony Arnold, nominated by Professor of Composition and Music Theory Dr. David Crumb, joined the ranks of Trotter Visiting Professors in January. Through a masterclass, lecture, and informal interactions, Arnold inspired both composition and performance students.
Vincent Thomas
Vincent Thomas, an interdisciplinary artist known for his expertise in humanism, choreography, dance, music, and activism, visited the Dance Department as a Trotter Visiting Professor. Handpicked by Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies Christian Cherry, Thomas visited Eugene for a week-long residency in November 2024.

Three ensembles from Oregon Bach Festival’s 2024-2025 Chamber Music at Beall series extended their visits into multi-day residencies, offering masterclasses, panel discussions, and collaborative experiences for students.
