Joyce Chen sits down with UO Today to discuss early music

In February, University of Oregon School of Music and Dance assistant professor of historical keyboards, Dr. Joyce Wei-Jo Chen, was featured on UO Today! In the video interview, led by the Oregon Humanities Center director, Paul Peppis, Chen discusses her early music career.

As a solo harpsichordist, she has performed throughout the United States, France, Belgium, and Taiwan. Chen is also a Ph.D. candidate in Historical Musicology at Princeton University and expects to defend her dissertation, “Musica Experientia/Experimentum: Acoustics and Artisanal Knowledge in the Global Seventeenth Century,” in May 2024.

Chen holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Harpsichord Performance from Stony Brook University and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley. She joined the SOMD faculty in September.
