News from the Keyboard Area

Two exciting stories are unfolding at the School of Music and Dance - both coming from the keyboard area and professor Alexandre Dossin's studio.

DMA candidates Jun Yun and Andrew Cannestra have been selected as "UO Emergent Keyboard Recoding Artists," a new program that offers select students the opportunity to record piano projects for NAXOS Records. The recording will be part of the artists' academic pursuits and are scheduled to take place during the 2024 spring break. Yun will record works from Portuguese composer Arthur Napoleão and Cannestra will tackle Polish composer Józef Wieniawski.

In keyboard faculty news, Dossin, a regular recording artist with NAXOS, will build upon his recent performance history of George Walker's work with a CD compilation of Walker's catalogue - the first-ever complete Walker collection. Additionally, the new Walker CD collection will include the world premiere recording of Walker's piano concerto. To properly record the concerto, Dossin will solicit help from SOMD faculty and students to form a new ensemble, UO Philharmonia. SOMD Associate Professor of Orchestral Studies and Conducting David Jacobs will conduct. A live concert version of the recording, open to the public, is tentatively scheduled for November 20, 2023.

More information will be available here as these stories develop.
