Sarah Hoffman is a violinist and musicologist hailing from Rockville, Maryland. After graduating from Interlochen Arts Academy in 2016, she completed her undergraduate studies in violin performance at Oberlin Conservatory with Czech violinist Milan Vitek. Sarah moved to Eugene, Oregon, in 2021 with the intention of completing a master’s degree in violin performance. Having since fallen for both Eugene and musicking as a scholarly pursuit, she opted to stick around, completing her doctorate in violin performance in the spring of 2026. She is currently wrapping up a second master’s degree in musicology. Performance highlights from Sarah’s first life as a violinist include orchestral and solo performances at David Geffen Hall and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, respectively, as well as a series of solo recitals across the Czech countryside in 2019. As a musicologist, Sarah’s current research examines the use of the Western music canon in early-2000s animated Barbie films and how these films introduce young girls to the classical tradition. In her free time, Sarah enjoys taking copiously long walks, cooking and baking all manner of things, and not taking life too seriously with her life partner, Ben.
