Beaverton High School's music department has created the Dr. Jason Silveira Music Scholarship in honor of Dr. Jason Silveira, UO School of Music and Dance Associate Professor of Instrumental Music Education. The new $500 scholarship has been generously matched by the school's music booster organization, resulting in a total scholarship amount of $1,000.
"I’m incredibly humbled and honored that this scholarship has been established in my name!” Dr. Silveira said.
The scholarship recognizes outstanding students who demonstrate a passion for music education, celebrating the safe and inclusive music communities Silveira fosters as an educator.
“[Silveira] is a role model for effective teaching, self-advocacy, and professionalism, and his teachings are at the heart of Beaverton High School's Music Department through our music educators, Kelly Hefty and Eli Simantel,” Beaverton High School Music Department notes.

Before joining Beaverton High School, Hefty and Simantel graduated from UO, with Silveira serving as their professor.
“Kelly and Eli are superlative music educators who continue to positively impact their students, school, community, and state,” Silveira said. “The teacher-student influence is reciprocal and they're a reminder of the meaningful connections and the lasting influence we can have on each other's journeys.”
The inaugural recipient of the Dr. Jason Silveira Music Scholarship is Ashton Jones, who will pursue a degree in Band Music Education at the University of Oregon in the fall of 2024.
