February 24, 2015—A new book by Assistant Professor of Musicology Loren Kajikawa is reviewed in the February 22 issue of The Register-Guard.
The article explains Kajikawa’s assertion—a case he makes in the book Sounding Race in Rap Songs—that the musicological tools developed to analyze classical music cannot be applied wholesale to hip-hop and other forms of modern music.
