Kathie Hsieh serves as the Interim Student Services Coordinator and Graduate Advisor in the School of Music and Dance. Kathie comes from extensive experience in arts administration, performing and education background. She has worked at various local arts non-profits in marketing and fundraising roles, taught music at local schools, and performed as a solo artist at Carnegie Hall.
Kathie is responsible for advising masters and doctoral students, and also helps all SOMD students with career planning and administering professional development opportunities. She also serves as the mentor for our Dean’s Student Advisory Council.
In addition to her work at SOMD, Kathie is a freelance percussionist, educator, composer and arts administrator. Her mission as an artist is to help promote equity and inclusion in the arts through collaborating and creating new works with other artists. She actively participates in the arts scene in Eugene – performing with various ensembles including Eugene Difficult Music Ensemble, volunteering at the Jazz Station, and serving on the board of the Eugene-Springfield Youth Orchestras. In her free time, she enjoys running on local trails, gardening, cooking, and catching up on the latest K-dramas!
