UO’s Suzuki Strings Offers Children Violin and Cello Lessons
EUGENE, Ore.—(August 27, 2014)—The University of Oregon’s Suzuki Strings program will offer beginning violin and cello lessons for children ages four to six years old, with the fall lessons season beginning on September 16 from 6-8 p.m.
Interested families are also invited to a free open house hosted by the University of Oregon’s Suzuki Strings Program on Saturday, October 4. Families can meet at 9 a.m. in Thelma Schnitzer Hall (room 163) of the Frohnmayer Music Building (961 E. 18th Ave) on the UO campus. Designed for participation by both parents and children, the morning will include live performances by string students of all ages, as well as the opportunity to meet teachers and staff, tour the facilities, and receive detailed program information. Children are welcome try instruments hands-on.
A partnership program with the UO School of Music and Dance, the Community Music Institute and Suzuki Strings Program offer comprehensive, high quality string instrument instruction to children, and serve students from the preschool through high school levels. The program is regionally recognized as an exceptional Suzuki music education program for violin, viola, and cello students. Professional faculty and UO student string teachers serve students ages four and older in Eugene and surrounding communities. In addition to weekly individual lessons, the UO’s Suzuki Strings students receive weekly group classes in repertoire, note reading, and performance development, as well as guest master classes, workshops, and enrichment classes.
Founded in 1997, the UO’s Community Music Institute has collaborated with numerous arts organizations including the Oregon Bach Festival, Oregon Festival of American Music, the ChamberMusic@Beall series, Arts Umbrella, the Hult Center SHOcase, and the UO Symphony Orchestra.
