When Eugene Opera couldn't find a male treble to sing the role of Miles in Britten’s "The Turn of the Screw," they asked SOMD senior Carolyn Quick, a soprano, to take the part. It turned out to be an inspired casting decision. Her performance earned high praise from national critic Mark Mandel, who wrote in the prestigious magazine Opera News that Quick's "pure timbre was such that anyone blindfolded would have taken her for a precocious boy treble." You can hear her perform the haunting "Malo" in this short video.
