February 9, 2016—The National Association of Teachers of Singing Cascade Chapter’s annual Classical Festival proved fruitful once again this year for University of Oregon student singers. 

 

The UO can boast two category winners at the Portland-based festival, Yuxin Zhou and April Miller in the category of Upper College / Independent Studio Classical Women.

 

Zhou, a student of Karen Esquivel, is a junior majoring in voice. In the final winners recital, Zhou, a soprano, sang "Chi il bel sogno di Doretta" from Giacomo Puccini's La Rondine.

 

Miller is a student of Esquivel and Eric Mentzel, a mezzo-soprano and a senior also majoring in voice, and performed "Must the Winter Come So Soon" from Samuel Barber's Vanessa.
