Early Move-In

Please note that the SOMD may begin its activities earlier than the rest of campus (campus Week of Welcome dates to be announced soon)Students should consult the SOMD Week of Welcome page for details on ensemble auditions, studio placement auditions, and music placement exams, in order to determine what day they need to arrive on campus. Students who will be living in the UO’s residence halls will also need to coordinate their move-in date via the UO housing portal by early September.  For more information, see the UO Housing website, as well as the Preparing for Move In page specific to Fall 2023 early move-in. On the request form, you can indicate the reason for early move-in is mandatory School of Music & Dance Week of Welcome activities, including auditions and orientation sessions.

Note there is a nightly fee for moving in before the UO’s standard move-in date of September 21, 2023; however one night’s cost can be offset by participating in Unpack the Quack, the UO’s volunteer program for incoming student move-in.  Consult the various undergraduate pages of the SOMD Week of Welcome to see when might be the best move-in date for you. If this presents a hardship, contact Beverly via email to inquire about assistance.

If you are new to the UO and did not attend IntroDUCKtion this summer, you must register for and attend the University’s Week of Welcome (WOW) orientation, specific dates to be announced.  For additional information, visit the UO Student Orientation Programs website.

Appointments can be scheduled through the campus’ Navigate [link coming soon] advising platform. At this session, students will receive registration advising and register for fall term classes.

If you have questions about Academic Advising, please email Beverly Taflinger at ugradmus@uoregon.edu.

For Students in Oregon Marching Band (OMB)

As you plan your Week of Welcome schedule, you may notice that some mandatory music major events conflict with your Oregon Marching Band schedule. Please be aware that all mandatory music major events are required. You will therefore be expected to reconcile your schedule to allow you to attend all of these events.  In most cases, you will need to request an excuse from Dr. Wiltshire and/or your section leader.
