Brad Garner is a Professor of Dance specializing in Contemporary Dance Performance, Choreography, and Interdisciplinary Collaboration.  He teaches courses in Modern Dance Technique, Ballet, Jazz, Partnering, Improvisation, Dance Composition, Student Dance Concert, and Dance Production.  He also serves as Coordinator for the UO Faculty Dance Concerts and has been elected for two consecutive terms as a Board Member for the American College Dance Association (ACDA) Northwest Region (2014-present).

His performance background includes ballet, jazz and modern dance.  He has had the privilege of performing early American modern dance classics by; Ted Shawn (Olympiad), Anna Sokolow (Rooms), and Alvin Ailey (Sinner Man trio from Revelations).  He has also performed professionally throughout the United States with a range of contemporary choreographers including; Doug Varone, Teri O’Connor, Keith Johnson, Danny Buraczewski, Joanie Smith, Danny Shapiro, Ruth Davidson-Hahn, Mark Haim, Scott Rink, Mary Fitzgerald, and Alan Sener.

Prof. Garner’s choreography is produced on his independent company, GARNERdances, with his interdisciplinary collective, Harmonic Laboratory (HL), and on students at UO as well as numerous university dance programs including; University of Alaska-Anchorage, University of Texas-PanAmerican, Arizona State University, Snow College, University of Iowa, Kent State, Scottsdale Community College (AZ), Minnesota State University-Mankato, and St. Olaf College.

His work with Harmonic Laboratory and his non-profit affiliate, Integrated Arts, includes live performances, fixed media installations, and curation of the annual PLATFORM Contemporary Arts Festival.  In 2014 HL was invited to present Zero Crossing, at the Kyma International Sound Symposium (KISS) 2014 in Brussels, Belgium, and Recurrent Constructions at James Madison University’s Duke Hall Gallery in 2016.

Harmonic Laboratory is a recipient of the 2016 Creative Heights Award from the Oregon Community Foundation for their full scale live production titled, TESLA: LIGHT, SOUND, COLOR, which tells the story of one of the most prolific and misunderstood figures in modern history, the physicist and inventor, Nikola Tesla. The show includes live physics demonstrations, original electro-acoustic music, contemporary choreography, and digital projection art featuring guest appearances by members of the Delgani String Players and the Eugene Ballet Company.  Performances will be held at the Hult Center in Eugene (Jan 10-11, ‘18), at the Newmark Theatre in Portland (Jan 13, ‘18), and the Tower Theatre in Bend (Jan 15, ‘18).
